Review - Music - Lamb of God - Sacrament - Track #1

Sacrament - Track #1 - Walk With Me in Hell
I’ve never done a ‘song’ review before nor have I done much work in the album review front, my only effort being a rather lame, or so I think, review of Megadeth’s ’09 album United Abominations. Here, I’ll be giving you my take on a rather controversial sounding song by a controversially named American band from Virginia. Rather deceptive, that name, if you take it apart.

I’ll be saying dirty things about –
a)       Walk With Me in Hell – from Sacrament (track no. 1, 2006 – Epic Records)
This track is from the Grammy nominated ’06 release by the Richmond boys, Sacrament, their fifth studio album. ‘Redneck’ from Sacrament was nominated for the Grammy awards on 2007 only to lose to ‘Eyes of the Insane’ by Slayer.

Lamb of God, i must mention here, were initially considering calling themselves Burn the Priest. The constant references to doing bad things to the church or in the darker sides of Christianity is disturbing to say the least, but i will ignore these issues for the purposes of this review.
Walk with Me in Hell, though, diabolically titled, features surprisingly few satanic references in the lyrics. According to the band, the lyrics refer to the fall of co-dependency with slight references to Dante’s Inferno. The song opens with a melancholic yet crushing riff juxtaposed with drummer Chris Adler’s machine gun style double bass and continually pounding cymbals. Blythe keeps chanting something about breathe as the song opens up just before the first verse. Blythe, I must mention sounds like he just regurgitated a whole pile of rusted nails and razor blades.

The myth of a meaning, so lost and forgotten

The guitar riffs are acidic enough to dissolve titanium, yet not good enough to mark the diamonds of the guitar world.
The solos too are spot on with the overall theme of the song, dark and effusive yet somehow the squeals remind me of Pantera. Not too long, tight but the palm muting could have been better in spots. Typical powerful LoG, but nothing that will separate the song from the crowd of metalcore acts out there.
Over all, a very likeable song that grows on you after a few listens; loud enough to bring those who have died under a month ago yet not heavy enough to raise Hitler.
